Pest Control Blogs Reach Niche Customers

Published on April 2nd, 2009 by Todd Leyse

Pest Control Companies that host blogs may find they reach a new niche of customers who are tech savvy, don’t want to talk to people until they are ready, travel a lot, or work hours outside of the typical M-F 9-5.

At ADAM’S, we are trying to reach those customers, which we believe are no longer a niche but a significant and growing part of our population. We are well suited for these customers, I feel, in part because I fit that profile. I have a Computer Science degree from the University of Minnesota and like to research things, often reading blogs, to ensure what I’m going to buy is something I have confidence in. I love a company who gives me a fair amount of information about them on their website and know that they are technically adept. Hopefully our prospective customers will appreciate this about us too. Let us know what you think.

I am sure you are aware that blogs are about more than reaching people, nerds and more. They are about true communication, back and forth, expression (not as rapid fire as Twitter), but real and current.
A blog further communicates the true personality of the company, how it relates to and responds to the community.
From an SEO perspective, it lets the engines know that you are relevant.

I hope you will visit my website and post to my blog.

    Best wishes,

    Gerry

    P.S. Perhaps we’ll meet at Pestworld 2009!

Yes, I think you learn a lot about people by reviewing their posts, moreso than by reading a website, which reads more like an advertisement. For example, I wouldn’t buy pest control service from someone who posts on their blog that they feel green pest control is a farse or that global warming is a liberal conspiracy. You see that kind of nonsense coming from conservative pest control blogs.
On my own blog, I try to convey the idea that our company is a company that thinks before it acts, using pesticide as one of a handful of pest control approaches to remedy the problem.

FYI, I love your blog and website.

The comment section also reveals a companies ‘true personality’. No of-fence but would you put a sticker on your trucks claiming “conservatism is nonsense because they don’t believe in global warming?” You probably wouldn’t, one because that’s a long winded sticker and two, because you would lose a lot of potential and or current clients. In our industry it’s all about education as to why something is better– It’s your blog and don’t get me wrong it’s nice but your company name is on it so it’s been my experience to keep opinions in neutral whether on a sticker or the web.

True enough. While some companies may only pursue a niche, such as high end home owners, we do not, so you are right - we would not want to offend potential customers or existing customers. At the same time, I think people can discuss a wide variety of subjects and/or express opinions without necessarily alienating customers and potential customers. Perhaps my Pests In The Media post will alienate some in the media or those who disagree with me. I guess I’m taking a chance there with the reputation of Adam’s Pest Control.

  4. A company blog shows that they are connected to the online community. People like to look around and do research before they purchase anything. We, as a pest control company, also use Twitter, Facebook and Digg to connect with consumers, and other people in the industry.
